# Creations3D docs: MCP server and REST API

Documentation for AI agents and developers: the remote MCP server, the REST API, sign-in, credits and limits, with a 2-minute quickstart.

## Creations3D docs: MCP server and REST API

C3D-DOCS-00 · REV A

[Docs](https://creations3d.com/docs) · Updated 28 October 2026

Creations3D turns a text description or a photo into a 3D model file at real size: GLB for games and the web, STL and 3MF for 3D printing, OBJ, and FBX for quad models. People use it on the website or from their AI assistant through a remote MCP server.

These docs are for AI agents and the developers who set them up. Your assistant can use Creations3D through the remote MCP server at `https://creations3d.com/mcp`, and scripts can use the REST API with a personal API key. Both use the same account, model library and credits as the website.

### Documentation pages

- [Quickstart: your first 3D model in 2 minutes](https://creations3d.com/docs/quickstart): Make your first real-size 3D model from an AI assistant over MCP, or from a script with one REST call. Exact commands, prompts and credit costs.
- [MCP server reference](https://creations3d.com/docs/mcp): The Creations3D remote MCP server: endpoint, transport, OAuth sign-in, the six tools with every input and output field, credit costs, limits and errors.
- [File formats, units and print reports](https://creations3d.com/docs/formats): GLB, STL, 3MF, OBJ and FBX from Creations3D: units and axes, size, triangle budgets, the print repair and every field of the print report.
- [REST API reference](https://creations3d.com/docs/api): The Creations3D REST API with a personal API key: create, list, read and delete models, read your credits. Fields, examples and error codes.

### MCP or REST: which should I use?

|  | MCP server | REST API |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Best for | Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and other MCP clients | Scripts, CI and backends |
| Address | `https://creations3d.com/mcp` | `https://creations3d.com/api/...` |
| Sign-in | Browser sign-in (OAuth), or an API key | API key |
| Create, read, list models | Yes, up to 20 in one batch | Yes, one per request |
| Export STL, 3MF, OBJ or FBX | Yes, `export_model` | No; the model response links the GLB |
| Delete a model | No | Yes |

### Connect an assistant

- **Claude**: Customize, Connectors, + Add, Add custom connector. Name it Creations3D, paste the address and sign in. [Claude setup guide](https://creations3d.com/connect/claude)
- **ChatGPT**: chatgpt.com/plugins, Add, Add custom MCP server. Keep Server URL, paste the address, keep OAuth, tick I understand and want to continue, Create as a plugin, then Connect Creations3D, sign in and Allow access. [ChatGPT setup guide](https://creations3d.com/connect/chatgpt)
- **Claude Code**: Run once, then /mcp to sign in. [Claude Code setup guide](https://creations3d.com/connect/claude-code)
  `claude mcp add --transport http --scope user creations3d https://creations3d.com/mcp`
- **Codex**: Run once, then sign in. [Codex setup guide](https://creations3d.com/connect/codex)
  ```
  codex mcp add creations3d --url https://creations3d.com/mcp
  codex mcp login creations3d
  ```
- **Cursor**: Add to .cursor/mcp.json (or ~/.cursor/mcp.json), switch it on and sign in. [Cursor setup guide](https://creations3d.com/connect/cursor)
  `{ "mcpServers": { "creations3d": { "url": "https://creations3d.com/mcp" } } }`

### Sign-in

- Browser sign-in (OAuth): Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code, Codex, Cursor sign in with the user's Creations3D email when the server is added. No API key needed. Discovery: https://creations3d.com/.well-known/oauth-protected-resource/mcp.
- API key: for scripts, CI or tools without browser sign-in, the account owner creates a key in Account, API keys, and sends it as `Authorization: Bearer c3d_sk_...`.

### Credits

Building models uses credits from a Creations3D plan. New accounts start with a $1, 7-day trial with 40 credits; plans run from $20 to $100 a month. Plans are started and managed by the account owner on the website, never through the MCP tools.

- Game-ready model (light GLB): 4 credits
- Model from a photo: 6 credits
- Standard model (printing and renders): 8 credits
- Resizing and exporting to STL, 3MF or OBJ: free

See [pricing](https://creations3d.com/pricing) for plans.

### Good to know

- A model usually takes about 1.5 minutes once it starts; queueing can add a few minutes. At most two models per account are worked on at once.
- GLB files use metres; STL and 3MF use millimetres.
- Download links are signed and expire after 15 minutes. Call get_model or export_model for fresh ones.
- USDZ is not available. Wall thickness and print overhangs are not checked.
- If a build fails, its credits go back to the account automatically.
