How to generate a 3D model in Claude

C3D-GUIDE-01 · REV A

Guides · By the Creations3D team · Published 28 October 2026

To generate a 3D model in Claude, add Creations3D as a custom connector, then ask Claude for the object with a size, for example "a low-poly treasure chest, 1 m wide, for my game". Claude calls the Creations3D create_model tool, and about 1.5 minutes later the chat has a GLB file at that size, with STL and 3MF exports for 3D printing. Claude cannot make a 3D file on its own; the connector does the building.

What do I need before I start?

  • Claude on the web or the desktop app, with room for a custom connector (Anthropic's help article says the Free plan allows one). On Team and Enterprise plans an owner adds it once under Organization settings, then everyone clicks Connect.
  • A Creations3D account with credits. New accounts start with a $1, 7-day trial with 40 credits. See pricing for the plans.
  • The connector address: https://creations3d.com/mcp

How do I add Creations3D to Claude?

Setup takes about 2 minutes and needs no API key: you sign in with your Creations3D email.

  1. In Claude, open Customize, then Connectors.
  2. Click + Add, then Add custom connector, and name it Creations3D.
  3. Paste https://creations3d.com/mcp and click Continue. Keep the recommended sign-in options, click Continue again and sign in with your Creations3D email.
  4. In a chat, click +, then Connectors, and switch Creations3D on.

The Claude connector setup guide has the same steps with drawings of each screen. Anthropic's own steps are in Getting started with custom connectors.

What should I type to get a good model?

Name one object, its style and its real size, and say what it is for. The size sets the largest side of the model, so "a 50 mm chibi dragon to print" gives an STL whose longest side is 50 mm.

  • "Make a low-poly sci-fi crate for my game, about 60 cm."
  • "A 50 mm chibi dragon figurine for my printer. Give me the STL."
  • "A bronze lantern, 320 mm tall, detailed enough for a product render."
  • "Make these four as one batch: an oak tree 4 m, a rock 0.8 m, a bench 1.5 m, a lamp post 3 m."

Claude turns your words into the tool's settings: use_for (web, game, print or render), target_size with units (mm, cm or m), an optional style, and for game assets an optional triangle budget (max_triangles, 1,000 to 500,000) and texture size (512, 1024 or 2048). You can ask for up to 20 models in one batch. From a chat, a description goes straight to a 3D model; there is no preview picture step. To build from a photo instead, give Claude a public HTTPS link to the image.

How many credits does a model cost?

What you ask forCreditsWhat you get
Game-ready model (use_for: game)4A light GLB in metres, sized to the largest side
Standard model (web, print or render)8GLB in metres, with STL and 3MF exports in millimetres
Model from a photo6The photographed object as a GLB, with the same exports
Resizing, or exporting to STL, 3MF or OBJ0A new file from a model you already made

The 40-credit trial covers about 5 standard models or 10 game-ready ones. If a build fails, its credits go back to your account automatically. Ask Claude "how many Creations3D credits do I have?" and it reads your balance with the account tool. Plans are started on the website, never from the chat.

How do I get the file out of Claude?

When the model is ready, Claude gives you a signed download link, and where your Claude app supports interactive tool views it also shows the model in a 3D viewer in the chat. Ask for the format you need: "export it as STL", "3MF please" or "a GLB under 20,000 triangles". Print files are in millimetres and are automatically repaired, and the export comes with a print report. Download links expire after 15 minutes, so if one has expired just ask Claude for a fresh link. Every model also appears in your Creations3D library on the website.

What are the limits?

  • A model usually takes about 1.5 minutes once it starts. Queueing can add a few minutes, and at most two models per account are built at once.
  • GLB files use metres; STL and 3MF use millimetres.
  • Wall thickness and print overhangs are not checked. Check thin parts in your slicer before a long print.
  • USDZ is not available.
  • Commercial use is allowed on every plan, the trial included.

Can I do the same in Claude Code or another assistant?

Yes. The same account, library and credits work from Claude Code (one terminal command), ChatGPT (see making an STL for 3D printing in ChatGPT), Codex and Cursor. In a coding agent you can ask it to save the GLB straight into your project; the three.js GLB guide shows how to load it. Agents that read documentation can start at the Creations3D docs.
